Behind blue eyes

Updated on 26 March 2009

By Gary Gibbon

President Lula of Brazil blames "white people with blue eyes" for the global financial crisis and says the poorest countries should not have to pay for it.

Gordon Brown met Brazil's president on the third day of an international trip to promote his G20 agenda.

The two leaders announced plans for a $100bn fund to promote world trade.

What President Lula said

"It's unfair that the poor pay the bills of a crisis created by the rich - Not by any blacks, by any Indians or by any poor.

"This is a crisis fermented by the irrational behaviour of white. blue eyed people who before the crisis seemed to know everything."
