Picked up by American muckraking website the Drudge Report, Daniel Hannan's attack on Gordon Brown is YouTube's most watched clip in Britain.

The speech made by an obscure Conservative MEP lambasting the prime minister to his face in Strasbourg on Tuesday has become an internet hit, getting 36,000 hits yesterday.

But is this really evidence of a new political reality, free of government spin doctors, as Mr Hannan would like to claim, or just a quirk of the web?
