Dr Abdullah Abdullah, President Karzai's main presidential rival in Afghanistan, tells Alex Thomson the Taliban are exploiting the issue of election fraud.

To the background of allegations of vote-rigging in last month's Afghanistan presidential elections, Dr Abdullah told More4 News: "I think the issue of fraud in the election, massive fraud and state engireed fraud, has come as a token to the Taliban.

"They are appreciating this situation and are utilising it.

"They say democracy doesn't work in this country.

"If, God forbid, a fraudulent regime is imposed upon Afghanistan, or the outcome of the election is based on fraud, then that will be the best prize for the insurgency."

Dr Abdullah sent his condolences to the relatives of those who died in today's bomb attack in Kabul, adding that it showed the current state of security in the capital.

"It's very unfortunate that this is happening, but it shows that the insurgency, terrorism, whatever you call it, that they've been emboldened.

"They've been emboldened because of the failures of the current administration.

"Hopefully we will have a way out of this situation."
