Amid the crackdown on Shia fighters in Iraq, the defence secretary confirms that proposed troop reductions will be delayed.
The government had previously said it hoped to cut numbers from 4,100 to 2,500 by the spring, but today Des Browne said these plans had been put on hold.
During operations in Basra, British artillery came to the aid of the Iraqi army at the weekend - the first time they'd been drawn into the fighting since their withdrawal from the city to a nearby airbase in September.
