Aid pressure on Burma's leaders

By Samira Ahmed

Updated on 25 May 2008

International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander tells Burma's leaders they'll be judged on their help to Cyclone Nargis survivors.

Mr Alexander was speaking in the Burmese capital Rangoon, at a UN sponsored meeting that has seen nearly $50m pledged in aid.

Some nations - led by the US - said the funding would depend on the Burmese leadership keeping its promise to allow foreign aid workers "full and unfettered" access to the worst hit areas.
