Who is Baroness Jay?

The daughter of Labour prime minister James Callaghan, Margaret Ann Jay was a journalist before entering the House of Lords.

When was she made a peer?

Baroness Jay entered the House of Lords 1992 where she was the opposition whip.

What other positions has she held?

After the Labour victory in 1997 she became the House of Lords Health Spokesman and Minister for Women. In 1998 she was appointed Leader of the Lords, before retiring from active politics in 2001.

What role has she played in Labour funding in the past?

In 2002 she was appointed to the committee to vet Labour donations alongside Blair's chief fundraiser Lord Levy.

What is her connection to the current David Abrahams' funding crisis?

Baroness Jay told Hilary Benn that a donation offered to him during his deputy leadership campaign by a third party was actually from David Abrahams. Benn turned down the money but subsequently accepted a donation form Abrahams made in his own name.
