Tory in breast cancer row

Updated on 20 December 2007

By Cathy Newman

One of David Cameron's prize A-listers is accused of hijacking a cancer charity for her own political ends.

Caroline Nokes sent out leaflet about breast cancer awareness, saying she was marking breast cancer awareness month with a survey being sent out to constituents.

She promised a personal donation for every completed survey. The only problem was the survey had nothing to do with breast cancer and everything to do with politics.

There were questions on law and order, the economy, and the priorities of a future Conservative government. Nokes then asked respondents if they'd like to join the Conservative party, and for their names and addresses.
