Yesterday the place was rocked by the Cherie-Gordon "lie" alegations.
One Cabinet Minister, Tessa Jowell said she came armed with a box of kleenex and fed the contents liberally to her surrounding cabinet colleagues.
Another, Peter Hain, said he cried.
"You're the future now - make the most of it." Tony Blair's last words from the podium as leader as he bade the party conference farewell.
This, his 13th party speech as Labour leader was part history lesson, part warning.
He told the delegates in Manchester he would stay for the next few months to help lay the foundations for a fourth new labour victory - the only legacy that mattered to him he said.
