Today is supposed the happiest day of the year. So why is everyone so bloody miserable? That's what the Glasgow Labour MP Tom Harris would like to know.
Harris posed the question on his weblog, in an entry echoing the former Conservative Prime Minister, Harold MacMillan by suggesting that - in material terms - we'd never had it so good.
Harris said: "Despite the recent credit squeeze, our citizens have never been so wealthy ... when we do go shopping whether for groceries or for clothes, we spend money in quantities that would have made our parents gasp.
"So why is everyone so bloody miserable?"
