The law in your hands

Updated on 11 December 2008

By Andrew Thomas

More4 News puts viewers' suggested laws to the MPs who won the ballot for parliamentary time to launch their own private members' bill.

The programme asked you what bill you would like to see passed if you could choose, and today the MPs' ballot took place.

The ballot decided which 20 MPs will get the chance to propose a bill.

Most will fall by the wayside, but the right bill at the right time stands a chance of becoming law. The legalisation of abortion and the abolition of the death penalty both started life as PMBs.

We were inundated with suggested laws, and all this week we've been screening our shortlist of your ideas.

Here we present those three proposed laws to the winners for their consideration.

Wed 10 Dec: Sarah Ayo - polygamy

Tue 9 Dec: Karen Cholerton - Tougher driving tests

Mon 8 Dec: Clare Hanbury - Mandatory year working
