Among the spending measures announced in the budget was a £3bn package of job creation and support for the unemployed, particularly those aged 18-24.

With unemployment rising, up to 2.1 million in the latest figures, today's students and school leavers are already facing a squeeze. Now it seems they are going to have to pay the bill for the boom years.
