Speaker fights for political life

The Speaker of the House of Commons Michael Martin is expected to set out expenses reform plans when he makes an emergency statement to MPs this afternoon.
The calls for him to resign over his handling of the affair have been growing louder over the weekend with Nick Clegg becoming the first party leader to say he should go.
And today Martin's position has been made even more precarious by the latest Daily Telegraph leak which suggests Commons authorities allowed MPs to over-claim for mortgage payments.
