Two more Cabinet ministers have become embroiled in the Commons expenses row amid claims James Purnell and Geoff Hoon avoided capital gains tax.
The pair have denied any wrongdoing over the sale of their second homes, and in the last hour the prime minister has insisted they acted within the rules.
But veteran Conservative MP Sir Peter Viggers has announced he will stand down from the Commons at the next election after claiming more than £1,600 for an ornamental duck house.
