Nominations for the most political personality of the last ten years is now closed.

The Channel 4 political awards are 10 years old. So we're looking to find the politician who has most inspired you, the viewer, over the past 10 years.

Nominations are now closed.

We've received hundreds of emails from you nominating who you think should be a candidate for Political Personality of the Decade.

We've now closed the nominations and the next step is for us to create a shortlist from your nominations, from which you can than vote upon. A shortlist will be posted within a week.

Tony Blair is the obvious candidate. He has been prime minister for most of that time. Is he one of the great statesmen of world history, or did he squander a golden legacy left by his predecessor, John Major, and lead the country into an unwinnable war?

Perhaps you think David Cameron is a better candidate for the title of politician of the decade. In just over two years, he's pulled off a remarkable turnaround in his party's fortunes.

Maybe it's Charles Kennedy, who lead the third party to its best showing since the Second World War.

Or is it a different Labour politician - perhaps Mo Mowlam, who played such a big role in forging the Good Friday peace agreement in Northern Ireland.

It doesn't have to be an elected politician, of course - TV chef Jamie Oliver and peace campaigner Brian Haw have both won the 'most inspiring political figure of the year' award before. Perhaps they deserve the title for the decade, too?
