Policeman sorry for poor Omagh probe
Updated on 23 January 2008
The head of police in Northern Ireland during the Omagh bombing told Channel 4 News he was "desperately sorry" for the investigation.
It's Sir Ronnie Flanagan's first public apology to the families of the victims of the Omagh bombing, for the way they conducted their investigation.
He spoke out after meeting one of his fiercest critics, Victor Barker, whose 12 year old son died in the attack almost 10 years ago.
The police have been roundly condemned for the way they conducted their investigation.
Today Sir Ronnie, who's now Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary, said he took full responsibility for the shortcomings but refused to resign.
