Policeman shot in Craigavon ambush
Updated on 10 March 2009
The republican group Continuity IRA claims responsibility for the murder of a policeman in Northern Ireland.
Constable Stephen Carroll was shot dead after answering an emergency call to a housing estate in Craigavon.
In a coded message, the group said such attacks will continue "as long as there is British involvement in Northern Ireland."
Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness has called those responsible 'traitors to the island of Ireland'.
The shooting follows the weekend attack by another Republican splinter group, the Real IRA, on an army barracks in Antrim, in which two British soldiers were killed.
