A Commons select committee wants a complete overhaul in party funding and in the appointment of peerages.

The powerful Commons public administration committee will tomorrow urge Gordon Brown to quickly implement in full its recommendations to overhaul the honours system.

The committee is reported to want a complete change in the appointment of peerages, a new corruption act, and extra powers for party funding watchdogs.

The MPs who inquired into the cash for honours scandal called on the prime minister not to wait any longer to reform the system.
