MPs back down over detention

Home secretary Jacqui Smith convinces rebels to back down on 42-day detention legislation.
A revolt had been threatened by around 50 Labour MPs, enough for the measure to be defeated.
But further concessions, including plans to spell out to parliament the emergency criteria which will have to be met before the 42 days can be invoked, have convinced some of the rebel MPs to back down.
