MoD loses battlefield rights fight

The court of appeal rules that the Human Rights Act should protect British soldiers in the battlefield. James Blake reports.

British operation in Helmand (Reuters)

Judges dismissed arguments by the Ministry of Defence, backing last year's high court ruling that sending a soldier into battle with defective equipment could breach his human rights, specifically the right to life.

The government says the ruling will have serious implications for military operations.
