Jobless worst in decade; unions warn two million unemployed by next year

Unemployment reaches its highest level for almost a decade, figures out this morning show.

There were 1.72 million people out of work between May and July, a rise of 81,000 on the previous quarter.

The TUC has warned that unemployment could hit two million by next year.
