Democracy may be on its way to the House of Lords - or at least part of it.

The government has announced how it plans to complete reform of the Lords - unfinished business from Tony Blair's first term of government.

Leader of the house Jack Straw has put forward plans for a smaller, hybrid chamber, made up of both appointed and elected members who would no longer be known as peers.
