Headteacher Des Smith has not been charged in connection with the cash for honours probe.

He was the first person to be arrested in Scotland Yard's cash for honours investigation, but prosecutors have decided there isn't enough evidence to charge him with any offence.

Headteacher Des Smith was arrested last April after being reported as saying that backers of Labour's city academies could be expect to be rewarded with an honour.

Since then the police inquiry has reached into the heart of 10 Downing Street, with the prime minister questioned and two of his closest aides arrested.
