Family blame Brown for soldier's death
Updated on 17 September 2009
The family of Sergeant Paul McAleese, who was killed in a bomb blast in Afghanistan, have written a letter to Gordon Brown, blaming him for his death. Cathy Newman reports
Sergeant McAleese, 29, of the 2nd Battalion the Rifles, was caught in a bomb blast on 20 August as he went to help a comrade who was fatally injured in an earlier explosion.
In a furious letter to Gordon Brown, his father-in-law, Stephen Minter, said British forces lacked the right equipment and resources to take on the Taliban.
He described Sgt McAleese's death as "needless and avoidable".
