Disc data loss 'entirely avoidable'

An official report condemns the security culture that led to the loss of two revenue and customs computer discs containing the personal details of 25 million people.
Entirely avoidable, woefully inadequate, with serious institutional deficiencies; some of the damning criticism levelled at the government in an inquiry into the loss of two computer discs containing the personal details of 25 million people.
An official report has made 45 recommendations to bring the HM Revenue & Customs data security procedures up to world-class standards.
But the two discs, whose disappearance we were told about last November, have still not been found.
