Conservatives reveal tax plans
Updated on 01 October 2007
Lower taxes aren't for Christmas, they're for life, the Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne, declared today.
Mr Osborne said that under a Tory government only millionaires would pay inheritance tax, while stamp duty would be scrapped for many first time buyers.
The Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne, told the conference the measure would benefit up to nine million families - those, he said, who'd worked hard and saved hard.
He claimed the tax changes would all be funded by a new levy on wealthy businesspeople domiciled abroad, but it remains to be seen whether this is a realistic tax plan or an announcement rushed out amid rumours of a snap election.
