Politician's Politician

Diane Abbott

This is the top Award given to the person MPs and Peers feel has made the most distinguished contribution in 2008.

The shortlist for this award was chosen by a committee of MPs, Peers and political observers in November 2008.

Members of both Houses are given the opportunity to vote for the winner by secret ballot.

Opposition Politician

Vince Cable
David Cameron
Kenneth Clarke
Nadine Dorries


This award is for the member of opposition parties which MPs feel has made the most useful contribution in 2008.

The shortlist for this award was chosen by a committee of MPs, Peers and political observers in November 2008.

MPs are given the opportunity to vote for the winner by secret ballot.

Campaigning Politician

Michael Clapham
Iain Duncan Smith
Frank Field
Baroness Hollis


This is the award for the most effective campaigning politician of 2008. The shortlist for this award was chosen by a committee of MPs, Peers and political observers in November 2008.

This award is for the Member of the House of Lords who Peers feel have made the most distinguished contribution in 2008.

Peers are given the opportunity to vote for the winner by secret ballot.

This award is for the best political book of 2008.

This year the winner will be decided by a group of politics students from Hull University who are spending a year working for MPs in Westminster.

The panel, under the tutelage of Lord Norton of Louth, will vote for what they believe will be the best written, most enduring book on Westminster politics.
