Chancellor 'will repay some expenses'

The chancellor, Alistair Darling, promises to repay some expenses, after new allegations that he claimed on two homes at once. Andrew Thomas reports.
Alistair Darling has agreed to repay some of his expenses following allegations that he claimed on two homes at once after being appointed chancellor of the exchequer.
Mr Darling moved out of a flat in south London and into 11 Downing Street in September 2007, having already paid - and reclaimed - the service charge on the flat to the end of the year.
Although he denies the claims of double-charging, he says he will repay the amount he received for the period of overlap.
The latest allegations have thwarted Gordon Brown's hopes of drawing a line under the expenses row before Thursday's European and local elections.
