Cameron 'send bankers to prison'

By James Blake

Updated on 15 December 2008

The leader of the Conservative party announces he wants to see more senior bankers sent to prison.

David Cameron this morning attacked Gordon Brown for not urging our authorities to pursue financial wrongdoing with the same rigour as in the United States.

The conservative leader's call for tougher investigations came as British banks counted their multi-million pound exposure to the $50bn fraud by a New York investment manager.

Royal Bank of Scotland said it had up to £400m at risk in Bernard Madoff's hedge fund and HSBC could reportedly lose up to £668m.
