Bye bye Blackpool?

Updated on 03 October 2007

By Nicholas Glass

It has been a conference arena for many a year, but now it looks like Blackpool is losing its political appeal.

The Conservatives ended their conference in Blackpool today, but have no plans to return in the near future.

'Antiquated'

The Winter Gardens have seen their fair share of political drama over the years - now, the Lancashire seaside resort may have to do without it.

Last year, the Labour party chose Manchester for its annual conference, saying Blackpool's conference venue was too antiquated and urging the town to improve its facilities.

The tourist industry believes it will be hit to the tune of £10m to £15m a year, and has vowed to lure back the parties.
