Brown has money worries closer to home: Channel 4 News learns his party may not be able to repay its debts for years to come.
All this could hardly come at a worse time for the prime minister, with poll ratings at a new low ahead of next month's local elections, and concerns about his own leadership and economic competence - from the City to his own backbenches.
