Gordon Brown launches a cross government offensive on welfare and benefits with three separate announcements on reforming the system.
From work and pensions came plans to force the long-term unemployed to work for a month or risk losing their benefits.
The health secretary said sick notes for those on incapacity benefit would be replaced by "well notes" - setting out what work claimants could be expected to do.
And the prime minister announced that new citizens could have to wait years longer before becoming entitled to some benefits.
