Updated on 06 November 2009

The Labour candidate, Willie Bain, is still the favourite to win the Glasgow North East contest, despite a strong challenge from the Scottish National Party.

But there is also a battle for third place with the BNP claiming they could finish ahead of the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats and even save their deposit.

The by-election was triggered when the seat was vacated in June by former Speaker of the House of Commons, Michael Martin.

Glasgow North East by-election candidates:

Ruth Davidson (C)
Willie Bain (Lab)
Eileen Baxendale (LD)
David Kerr (SNP)
David Doherty (Green)
Charlie Baillie (BNP)
Mev Brown (Ind)
John Smeaton (Jury Team)
Mikey Hughes (ND)
Kevin McVey (SSP)
Louise McDaid (Soc Lab)
Tommy Sheridan (Solidarity)
Colin Campbell (TILT)
