Brown fights back after criticism

Gordon Brown will attempt again this week to launch a fight back against the growing criticisms of his leadership.

The prime minister will publish a draft Queen's speech programme for the autumn, featuring new plans on schools and the health service.

But with polls showing Labour heading for possible defeat in the Crewe by-election, the last thing Gordon Brown needed was a spate of political memoirs focussing on his fraught relations with his predecessor.
