Brown campaigns in by-election

By Victoria Macdonald

Updated on 25 October 2008

Gordon Brown hits the campaign trail in Glenrothes, Fife, to win by-election votes.

The prime minister said Labour was handling the economic crisis well as he visited the Glenrothes consituency, which is next to his own Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath seat.

In the past Brown has refused to campaign in by-elections in his role as prime minister.

However he said the U-turn was not a sign of desperation from Labour, which will be defending a majority of 10,500 from the SNP, the Tories and the Lib Dems, in the poll on 6 November.
