Britain's Next Boss - leaders under the microscope

By Krishnan Guru-Murthy

Updated on 30 April 2010

In the run-up to the general election Channel 4 News on a Friday is being extended to include a special programme assessing the personalities and leadership skills of the main party leaders.

Britain's Next Boss - every Friday for the next three weeks

We're putting the personalities and leadership skills of Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg under the microscope to assess their suitability to run the country, writes Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

On both our Facebook Britain's Next Boss page and the programme we'll be examining the personal traits and abilities of the men to assess whether they’ve got what it takes to do the top job and handle the unexpected.

Remember, the credit crunch never featured in anyone's thoughts in 2005; dealing with al-Qaida was never a manifesto issue in 1997.

Who is fit to run the country? Join the debate - plus get all the latest videos and updates - by becoming a Facebook fan of Britain's Next Boss.

We’ll hear from business people, psychologists, recruitment experts and some other familiar faces on the programme. But on Facebook, we want you to join the conversation.

What qualities do you feel give someone the edge to lead the nation? What role does charisma play? What is the difference between a chief executive and a political leader? And if this was a genuine recruitment exercise would any of our candidates make it past the first round?

Watch the online clips, follow the Facebook debate and get involved.

We'll be talking about it on Twitter too with the hashtag #BritainsNextBoss.

Programme 2: 23 April 2010 - Judgement and communication

The issues covered this week are communication and judgement.

In this teaser clip, our candidates do their best to show just how down to earth and normal they are. An example of good judgement or a transparent gimmick?

Programme 1: 16 April 2010 - Team building and confidence

You've seen the polices, watched the debates but who's really got the personal qualities to lead?

James Caan, Ruby Wax and psychologist Adrian Atkinson joined Krishnan Guru-Murthy in Britain's Next Boss to find out.

Video preview: Feel the love

Gordon, David and Nick can't do it alone.

They all need somebody to lean on. In this clip we take a light-hearted look at the leader's respective rocks.

You can almost feel the love. Make sure you visit our Facebook page for more exlusive video.
