BNP and Gately prompt free speech debate

As rows simmer over a Daily Mail column about Stephen Gately and a BNP appearance on Question Time, Andy Davies asks: when should the media restrict offensive views?

An article by Daily Mail columnist Jan Moir on the death of Boyzone star Stephen Gately sparked a record 21,000 complaints to the Press Complaints Commission alleging the piece was offensive and homophobic.

Ms Moir has defended her article, insisting she has been the victim of a "heavily orchestrated internet campaign".

And the BBC has also rejected a call from Cabinet minister Peter Hain to stop the BNP leader Nick Griffin from appearing on this week's Question Time.
