Basra back in Iraqi hands

Four and a half years after the Iraqi invasion, Basra is back in the control of the Iraqi authorities.

Al-Qaeda's second-in-command, Ayman Al-Zawahri, is claiming the handover is proof that insurgents are gaining the upper hand.

It is the war which led the US and its allies into conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan, and cost thousands their lives.
