Accused Algerian demands apology

Updated on 14 February 2008

By Katie Razzall

Lotfi Raissi, the Algerian arrested 10 days after September 11 and accused of training the pilots involved in the atrocities, has demanded a public apology.

Following his high court victory this morning, Raissi called on the home secretary to apologise for his wrongful arrest and imprisonment.

After his initial arrest he was released but then re-arrested under an extradition warrant at the request of US authorities.

Today the high court ruled that Raissi was entitled to compensation for the four and half months he spent in jail.

The court of appeal also accepted his claim that the government labelling him a terrorist had a "devastating" effect on his life and health.
