Dr Mulla thinks that there is a problem with our morality. Every weekend he witnesses and deals with the damage caused by Britain's binge drinkers to themselves and others.

While his own religion has come under increasing critical scrutiny, as a devout Muslim he struggles to understand how British society, and especially British parents, can turn a blind eye to the havoc that alcohol causes and the licentious behaviour it engenders.

It is uncomfortable viewing as he accompanies young student drinkers on a typical night's revelry, meets a 34-year-old alcoholic who started her drinking career binge-drinking at 14 years old, and asks her mother why this self-destructive behaviour was not dealt with.

Dr Mulla discusses the lessons learned thousands of years ago by the Muslim faith on the dangers of alcohol with Islamic scholar Iman Ibrahim Mogram. With social scientist, Martin Plant, he tries to understand the factors that cause so many British people to drink to excess.

He talks to the cross-bench peer Lord Walton, a highly distinguished fellow doctor, on why successive governments have failed to provide a supportive framework for those battling against the damage that alcohol causes British society as a whole.
