Sir Alistair Graham, the former Chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, argues that changing the fundamental political culture and the way MPs behave must be absolutely central to Gordon Brown's premiership.

With just 37% of people saying they believe what Gordon Brown says, it's clear he has a huge job to do in restoring the public's trust and Graham says he was encouraged when Brown agreed to meet him to discuss how to do this.

However, this encouragement quickly evaporated when Graham says he found himself the victim of more spinning by Brown's team. Despite wanting to keep the meetings quiet, he found the news had been leaked to the following day's papers in a way which made it look like he was to blame.

It is behaviour like this which needs to be changed, Graham argues.
