Children are collectively receiving £23.4 million a year from the tooth fairy, finding an average £1.22 under their pillow for each tooth they lose, a survey of 3,043 parents has shown.

The average rate paid for a tooth has increased by 16% during the past year, and soared by 258% during the past 25 years, according to The Children's Mutual.

Children are now likely to net an average of £24.40 for losing all 20 of their milk teeth, well up on the £6.80 their parents say they received. Those in London get paid the most.
