Peru offers flealess dog to Obamas
Updated on 13 November 2008
The Friends of the Peruvian Hairless Dog Association have offered Barack Obama's family a four-month-old pup called Machu Picchu, the name of Peru's famed Inca citadel.
Association president Claudia Galvez said the breed would be perfect for the future US president, who says one of his daughters suffers from several allergies.
The dogs, which are flealess and relatively odourless, were kept as pets during the Inca empire and depictions of the breed appear in 1,200-year-old, pre-Inca artwork.
