Meter mix-up
Updated on 17 December 2007
E.On has apologised after a "disturbing" address mix-up meant an electricity meter was installed in the home of a woman who is not even its customer.
Osteopath Anna Tonkin, from Brunwell, Norfolk, did not realise for two weeks that strangers had gained entry to her cottage to fit the pre-payment meter.
The electricity giant said the meter was put in as a "last resort" as part of enforcement action. It was mistakenly thought that Ms Tonkin's address was behind on payments - but her supplier is British Gas.
