An art museum in northern Italy is to continue displaying a sculpture of a crucified frog which has angered the Pope.

Earlier this month the Pontiff wrote to the board of the museum in Bolzano, saying the sculpture had "offended the religious feelings of many people".

The 1990 wooden sculpture by the late German artist Martin Kippenberger shows a green frog nailed through the feet and hands like Christ. The museum said it has nothing to do with religion.
