The reason Bigfoot is not often seen is not just because he is shy, but also because he is an endangered species, according to a Canadian MP.

Mike Lake has called for the Sasquatch to be protected under Canada's species at risk act, alongside Blue Whales, Whooping Cranes and Red Mulberry trees.

His petition, which has been signed by more than 500 of his constituents and will be presented to parliament this week, reads: "The debate over their (Bigfoot's) existence is moot in the circumstance of their tenuous hold on merely existing. Therefore, the petitioners request the House of Commons to establish immediate, comprehensive legislation to affect immediate protection of Bigfoot."
