Viacom court win forces Google to hand over YouTube users' personal data
Updated on 04 July 2008
YouTube owner Google is ordered to hand over personal data about everyone who has ever used the site in a US court case.
If you're one of the millions of people who have watched a clip on YouTube, this means you.
The information includes IP addresses, the address of your computer, and also email addresses.
Viacom, which owns MTV and Nickelodeon, brought the court case, claiming Google encourages copyright infringement through the site.
