Vauxhall offers staff sabbaticals

By Emily Reuben

Updated on 13 December 2008

Vauxhall offers nine months off with 30 per cent pay to hundreds of workers, to save jobs, as unsold new cars are piling up.

The company confirmed today that if not enough workers take it up, redundancies could result.

It is a sign of the economic crisis faced by Vauxhall and its American parent, General Motors and it comes as governments on both sides of the Atlantic deliberate over how to help the beleaguered motor industry.
