Parents in some of England's most deprived areas will be offered grants worth £200 to help with child health and social development.
When Labour came to power 11 years ago they brought in child and working tax credits to help the poorest families in the country. But even for those in work, money is often tight.
Kate Taunton spoke to three families who get tax credits but who are still struggling to stay out of poverty.
