Say goodbye to Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley as their Spanish owner announces a major rebrand. Can the change rescue customer confidence?
What's in a name? Everything, it seems, especially if you are a bank that relies on trust to keep customers loyal.
And with many of the most established names in the British banking industry now synonymous with financial collapse the Spanish bank Santander has announced a major rebrand.
So it is goodbye to Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley. Instead 1300 branches will have their names changed to Santander by the end of 2010.
But will it make people feel any safer about their savings?
