Rising world food crisis analysis

It's official - we're facing "a rapidly escalating global food crisis".

The United Nations secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, says longer-term efforts are needed to significantly increase production of food grains.

So how do we do that? Will science come to the rescue, or do we need to reform the world trade system? Will the market adjust itself anyway?

Or is the answer actually to reduce consumption, rather than increasing production?
